FilterMate

FilterMate

Dirty or particulate laden samples may require that the digested sample be filtered prior to analysis. This is especially true with sludge, wastewater and soil samples.

The FilterMate® Filtration System provides a convenient and inexpensive method of filtration requiring no transfer steps. The FilterMate fits directly into the digestion vessel and is pushed through the liquid being filtered to the bottom of the cup with a detachable plunger. After filtration is complete, the plunger is removed and discarded while the filter assembly remains in the bottom of the cup. This arrangement does not interfere with storage or use of the vessel in an autosampler. FilterMates are available with different choices of filters for specific filtration needs.

Question/Answer

Do you have 1 um FilterMate

The closest we have is SC0404, which is a 0.7 micron glass fiber filter.

When placed onto a hot plate, what is the maximum temperature the 50mL digestion cup can handle without melting?

The digestion vessels are made of polypropylene, which has a melting point of 130°C. That is the maximum temperature for this product.

Can the filtermate be used for EPA 7199 Hexavalent Chromium?

The FilterMate product could be used in method 7199 under certain circumstances. The method asks for a 0.45 micron PTFE filter. We do not have a FilterMate that matches that description. These PTFE filters are 5 micron. Because SW-846 is a performance based method list you should be able to use a different filter material and demonstrate equivalent performance. SC0407 is a 0.45 micron PVDF filter that should give adequate performance.

What pore size is the filter

This filter has a 6.0 micron pore size.

WHAT PORE SIZE ARE THE SC0408 FILTERMATE

This product has a porosity of 6 microns.

Where can I find a coa for the filtermate?

This product is not certified and does not come with a COA. If you need a certified version of this product, purchase SC0408.

Hi, what is the pore size of item SC0408?

This product has a 6 µm certified PTFE filter.

What are the pressure specifications for this product (SC0408)?

The SC0480 will regularly operate at an average pressure of 15 psig in a matrix of DI water with 2% flour. Each lot is tested and must not exceed a maximum of 23 psig with this same matrix in order to be released. There is an initial moment of inertia that must be overcome when the filter mate first passes liquid, and this is usually where the highest pressure is realized. There is a vent line in the SC475 vessel located at the 10mL mark which also yields another pressure spike when the filter mate passes over this mark.

I usually digest soil for Total Heavy Metals analysis with acids, can I use this type of filter?

The filter inside is PTFE which is suitable for this digestion. Be aware that PTFE is hydrophobic and will slightly resist filtration of aqueous matrices. Low pH, such as that resulting from acid digestion will assist in overcoming this.

What is the pore size of the filters for Catalog#SC0408 ?

The filter has a porosity of 6 um.

do these come in a case?

This product is sold in packs of 100.

Do you test for Si when running the filter acid blank solutions? It is not listed with the other metals. Is Si or SiO2 used in any part of the filter?

We do not do any testing for Si when doing this product analysis. We do not use any materials that contain Si or SiO2 when manufacturing this product.

Are the plungers sold separately

This item does come with plungers. There is a separate part number for plungers only if you need them, SC0405.

Are these filters 0.45 or 0.2?

These filters have a 5.0 micron porosity.

Will these fit in the SC481 vessels? Are the plungers included?

Yes, all versions of the Filtermate will fit in the SC481 vessels. The plungers are included in the package.

Is this appropriate for use with groundwater samples? If not, is there a similar cup/filter combination that would be appropriate?

This filter can be used for groundwater samples. The important question is the analytes you are looking for and what method you need to follow. Important points to consider are the analytes of interest in your samples, the preservatives or other chemical process used prior to filtering, the purpose of the filtering, the need for access to the solid material filtered out of the sample, and if the entire aliquot of sample needs to be filtered or not

Do you sell trace metals grade filtermates for 15 mL tubes.

We do not have a trace metals FilterMate for the 15 mL tubes. We only have a 2 micron polyethylene filter for this product. Part number SC0421

Where can I find the certificate of analysis for this filter?

This particular product does not have a certificate of analysis with it. If you need a certified filter please use product SC0408.

Do you make these to fit 100 mL digestion cups?

We currently only produce the FilterMate line to fit the 50 mL digestion cups.

Our typical digestion is 55 ml. I\'d like to use the 68 ml digestion vessels with the Filtermate. Are they compatible?

Yes--the FilterMates are specifically designed for our SC475 digestion vessels. They will not work with any other type of vessel.

Does the Filtermate come with digestion vessels or are they sold seperately?

The digestion vessels are sold separately.
