Detector Tubes and Sampling Pumps

GASTEC gas detector tubes are thin glass tubes with calibration scales printed on them so you can directly read concentrations of the substances (gases and vapours) to be measured. Each tube contains a particulate matrix (e.g. silica gel, alumina) which binds carefully selected and highly stable detection reagents that are especially sensitive to the target substance in order to produce a distinct layer of colour change. The tubes are hermetically sealed at both ends.

Today over 600 types of target gas can be measured.

The detection limit is the smallest amount that can be reliably detected by the product.

Hi do you have the same Hydrogen sulfide detector tube 1...20 PPM

We do not have a detector tube in the 1-20 ppm range. However, we do have one in the 1-40 ppm range. The part number is IH4LK.

What is the ppm on % tubes

This tube does not measure in the ppm range, it measures in the percent range. Percent or parts per hundred is 1000 times higher than ppm or parts per million. This product will measure hydrogen sulfide in the air in a range from 2-40%.

This product comes with 10 tubes per box.

To convert LB/MMCF (pounds per million cubic feet) to ppm (part per million), use the following conversion factor: 1 LB/MMCF = 21.8 ppm. Therefore, 3 LB/MMCF = 65.4 ppm and 40 LB/MMCF = 872 ppm.

Any readings above or below the marked levels on the tube should be treated as a qualitative rather than quantitative result. The breakthrough section is impacted at any levels above those for which the tube is specified.

why are the tube type detectors, or stain dosimeters, +/- 25% accurate at evacuation levels ?

The method of indication is what limits the accuracy of these types of detectors. Relying on the diffusion of the analyte through the column as well as the human eye interpreting the line all contribute to inaccuracies in the apparent reading on the tubes.

There are 5 primary tubes and 5 detector tubes in each package. One of each type should be used for each sampling event.

These tubes are intended for air sampling and testing not for water samples.

I am looking for the components that will cause an interference in the actual H2S reading, which results in a reading higher than the actual value, but within the range of the tube.

Here is information from Gastec, the manufacturer of the tubes: Detector tubes are primarily designed to measure specific\r\ngases. But it is also possible to measure other substances\r\nof similar chemical properties with the aid of a correction\r\nfactor or chart. A correction factor is a figure which is\r\nmultiplied by the concentration interpreted from the colour\r\nstarting on the detector tube. The correction may also be\r\npresented as a chart on tube if the correction relationship\r\nis nonlinear. Therefore, please make use of the correction\r\nfactor/chart measuring ranges as a reference. Moreover,\r\nthis factor may vary slightly between production batches.\r\nPer Gastec the tubes are specific to the analyte of interest. There is a specific tube for every type including H2SO4, therefore the only thing detected on the IH4LT tube would be H2S.

What are the interferences that will result in a higher concentration of H2S with these tubes

If the tubes are exposed to higher amounts of the target analyte than what their range is intended for you will saturate the tube which will result in the entire tube changing color. You would only know that the concentration of the atmosphere was greater than the highest marking on the tube.
