MicroBlock™ distillation systems simplify the tedious chore of conventional distillation procedures. The MicroBlock- V series has a vacuum attachment for Cyanide while the MicroBlock-R series is designed for applications that do not require air/vacuum control.

Both systems use a 10-postition PTFE-coated aluminum heating block with digital temperature control, timer and built-in flow meter for cooling water. Temperature is adjustable up to 190°C, meeting the requirements of all referenced distillation procedures. MicroBlock Systems reduce chemical waste by 90%.

Reduced volume MicroBlock distillation systems comply with the following EPA methodologies:
Cyanide, EPA 335.4
Phenol, EPA 420.1
Ammonia, EPA 350.1

Can this system be used for ammonia, cyanide and phenol?

The MicroBlock-R can only be used for ammonia and phenol. Cyanide distillation requires vacuum hookups, which are available on the MicroBlock-V, C5200-240. This unit will come with the glassware needed for cyanide distillation. If you add 10 sets of C5214 you will have everything needed to run all three of those distillations.

When distilling for ammonia or phenol there is no specific time recommended for the distillation. The process asks for a specific volume to be distilled in order to ensure complete transfer of the target analyte into the distillate. Experience has shown ammonia samples to take 60-90 minutes while phenols often take close to two hours.

Does the unit require a vent hoos when used for ammonia distilation in Waste Water Effluent?

While the unit is designed to be a self contained environment and prevent the loss of any fumes or vapors, it is recommended to always carry out distillations inside a hood to protect the user from any potential mishaps.

what volume of sample can the tubes/system accommodate for phenol distillation?

The maximum volume that this unit can distill is 50 mL.
