The EPA approves the use of micro distillation systems and disposable tubes for reporting of cyanide. These systems are easily adaptable for ammonia distillations as well.

The SimpleDist Micro heating block is made from PTFE-coated graphite enclosed in a durable Kydex® housing with a built-in controller.

What Reagents are in the CN SimpleDist MicroTubes

No reagents are contained in the tubes when they are shipped to you. The user is responsible for putting the appropriate catch solution in the collection end prior to use. For cyanide this is a sodium hydroxide solution.

What is the diameter of the simpledist tubes?

These tubes have a varying diameter along the length of them. The sample tube portion that fits in the distillation block is 15 mm diameter.

Are C8100C CN micro dist. tubes the same as C8100P for phenols. ? Have been using HACH Lachat tubes were the CN and Phenols could use the same tube. Ammonia being different.

All our tubes are made from the same base resin. They each have a slightly different handling and packaging procedure to keep them free from specific contaminants.

The Hach part number that you listed is for Micro Dist tubes for Ammonia testing. We have the SimpleDist tubes for Ammonia, which are a direct replacement for the Hach Ammonia tubes. We do not have a 50 pk like the Hach part number, but we sell in packs of 10 (C8010A), 21 (C8021A), 26 (C8026A), and 100 (C8100A).

Hi, what is the difference between C8100P and C8100C distillation micro tubes?

C8100P is used for phenol distillation. C8100C is to be used in cyanide distillation. The tubes are processed in a way as to be free of the analytes of interest.

Do you sell a 100 pack of the distillation tubes for phenol that are already assembled?

We do not sell these tubes preassembled.

What is the melting point of the polypropylene used to make SimpleDist Tubes?

Polypropylene has a melting point of 130 C.

What specific EPA approvals do you have for technique. CWA, DW, RCRA?

There is a method in 40 CFR (10-204-00-1-X) that specifically approves this for cyanide. Ammonia and phenol will have to be addressed with your own accrediting agency.

The method for CN provides a formula for the acid and catalyst combined. For WAD cyanide, both of these chemicals are not used. Where can I find literature/method on the formula for acetate ratio?

I would reference Standard Methods 4500 CN- I Weak Acid Dissociable Cyanide.

Is this product made by EnvExpress? I ask bc we\'ve been using an identical product by Hach, and we are not pleased with their products performance, and are looking for a new manufacturer.

you have an existing Micro Distillation block and tubes from another vendor the instructions for use are the same. If you do not currently own a block and need the instructions for use it will be available for download when you purchase one from us. The method performance numbers are equivalent to those distillation methods currently listed in 40 CFR part 136.

Ae the distillation tubes approved for NPDES work for phenol?

There is no specific method listed in 40 CFR that approves these for use with phenol distillation. Some agencies accept them based on equivalency to the cyanide method and others require varying degrees of comparison studies. Please consult your regulatory agency for their stance on these tubes for uses other than cyanide.

approved to use with SM 4500-NH3C? collection tube in the SM is required 2.5 ml Boric acid for 25 ml collection vol. to trap NH3 but it could not add 2.5 ml Boric acid using the tube?

This distillation system has approval in 40 CFR part 136 for cyanide via method 10-204-00-1-X. Approval for other methods must be sought from your accrediting agency. Typically reduced volume methods are acceptable provided all reagents remain in the same molar ratio as in the approved methods.

After CN distillation, can you then analyze the ditillate on a discrete autoanalyzer? Are the ammonia and phenol distillations approved?

This distillation system yields 6 mL of distillate. It is ideally suited for discrete analysis. It is also applicable to flow injection or segmented flow analysis but is somewhat limited in the number of replicates possible with only 6 mL of liquid to work with. Using this system for ammonia or phenol is not expressly written into 40 CFR. You would need to consult with your auditing body to determine their requirements for using this technology for ammonia and/or phenol.

Is there a direct match available for Hach part number A17117? These are their user fill ones.

All of our tubes are user fill. We have broken them down into a different part number depending on the test you wish to run. Part numbers ending in A are for ammonia, C are for cyanide, and P are for phenol. The digits in the part number correspond to the number of tubes. The handling for each tube is slightly different to ensure cleanliness for the analyte of interest.

What is the outside dimension of the distillation tubes?

The tubes for this block are the same size as the tubes sold by Lachat for their MicroDist system.
