From the laboratory to the field, NECi's enzyme based nitrate test kits give accurate and reliable results without the use of harmful chemicals.  All of NECi's nitrate test kits use an enzyme called nitrate reductase for nitrate testing.  Traditional nitrate testing uses cadmium, a toxic heavy metal for analysis - we're simply replacing the cadmium with an enzyme.  This makes nitrate testing safer, more accurate, sensitive, selective, and environmentally benign.  The nitrate reductase method quantitatively measures nitrate in any aqueous sample, including complex matrices, soil and plant extracts, milk, food samples, and more.

The laboratory nitrate analysis method has been validated and approved by ASTM International, USGS, and is approved as an Alternate Test Procedure under the Safe Drinking Water Act for nitrate determinations using discrete analyzers and for Clean Water Act applications with the U.S. EPA. This same method has been adapted into an easy to use kit that anyone can use for nitrate analysis anywhere on-site. Once samples are collected, testing is a breeze.

The nitrate reductase method for nitrate quantification has been validated by the following agencies:

About the U.S. EPA Alternate Test Procedure for Nitrate Analysis Using Nitrate Reductase

On August 7th, 2017, the EPA granted NECi's Nitrate Reductase ATP status for Clean Water Act applications as part of the 2016 Methods Update Rule. Regulation 40 CFR Part 136 allows method flexibility: the assay is compatible with virtually any type of colorimetric detection, for anything except drinking water.

The Method Update Rule can be found here: https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-12/documents/mur_final_prepub_12-15-2016.pdf

The 40 CFR 136.4 application for and approval of alternate test procedures for nationwide use is explained here: https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/40/136.4

Contact your state agency or regional ATP coordinator now for approval to stop using cadmium now.
